Charity Advises Less Screen Time

Parents are being advised to limit the amount of time their children spend in front of television and computer screens thanks to a Manchester-based charity.

Kids Fitness First have launched a campaign featuring their own superhero mascot Captain Kid designed to encourage children spend as much time doing physical activity as they do behind a screen.

The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness and to educate pre schoolers and primary school children about the importance of getting a balance between the amount of time spent on digital play with an equal amount of time doing physical/active play- Captain Kid says it should be 50/50.

Kids Fitness First note:

“We understand and agree that technology is a fundamental part of our daily lives which is why we advocate for children learning to understand they must balance their time on devices.

On average a child has access to around five digital devices at home, not including those in the schools and it’s essential for parents to understand the harm to their childs health that can be a consequence of a child spending too much time on screens.”

The campaign was launched at Rocking Horse Nursery in Audenshaw and it’s hoped the message will soon spread across the region.
