Man taken to hospital after car crashes into tram in Manchester

It happened in the city centre on Saturday afternoon

A man was taken to hospital after a car crashed into a tram in Manchester city centre.

Emergency services were called to near St Peter's Square at around 2pm on Saturday 1 June.

One man who was in the car was transported to hospital by North West Ambulance Service.

The severity of his injuries are not known.

Firefighters remained at the scene to remove the car to allow the tram to continue its journey.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 2pm this afternoon (Saturday 1st June), three fire engines from Manchester Central, Salford Central and Moss Side fire station were called to reports of a vehicle crashing into a tram near St Peter’s Square, Manchester.

“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters used stabilising equipment and small tools to make the vehicle and tram safe. One man who was in the vehicle has been taken to hospital by colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.

“Firefighters have been in attendance for around two hours and are still at the scene.”
