More strikes by bus drivers have been announced, threatening travel disruption for passengers.

Unite said its members in areas including Manchester and Preston will take industrial action in the coming weeks in disputes over pay.

The union has already called walkouts by bus drivers in several other parts of the UK.

More than 2,000 Unite members working for Manchester's Bee Network, employed by Stagecoach and Metroline, walk out from September 19-22.

At Stagecoach, around 1,000 drivers based across the Oldham, Stockport and Middleton depots have rejected a pay offer of 3.5%, said the union, while 1,000 union members at depots across the Manchester region have turned down a similar offer.

Unite said 110 of its members at First Bus Rochdale have rejected a 6% pay offer.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: "All of the firms involved in this dispute are highly profitable, but their workers are being denied a fair wage while their employers line their pockets.

"Our members have agreed this is unacceptable and have unequivocally voted to strike. They have Unite's full backing throughout the whole of this dispute."

Meanwhile, Unite said Birkenhead, Chorley and Preston Stagecoach bus services will be disrupted during pay strikes by 500 drivers from September 29 to October 5, and from October 13-19.
