Bomb disposal teams called to Old Trafford after suspicious item found

Police responded to the incident on a bus on Wednesday evening

Police and specialist bomb disposal teams have been responding to reports of a suspicious item being found on a bus in Old Trafford.

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement that they were called around 6.45pm on Wednesday 19th April to Stretford Road to reports a bus passenger was refusing to pay the fare and causing some disruption.

Officers attended and discovered a suspicious item.

A cordon was put in place while bomb disposal teams assessed the item.

People were told to avoid the area and road closures were put in place on Stretford Road and East Union Street.

These have all now been lifted.

A man's been arrested and remains in police custody.
