A man's been charged with attempting to murder a police officer who was hit by a van in Sale.

The officer was knocked down while responding to a domestic incident on Beech Road on Sunday. He suffered a fractured leg and was briefly knocked unconscious.

Kyle Woods (29/08/1991) of Wendover Road, Manchester has been charged with attempted murder and dangerous driving.

He was remanded in custody ahead of an appearance at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court on Wednesday 8 May 2024.

These charges are a result of investigation by local detectives following an incident on Sunday 5 May 2024 in the evening, when one of our officers attended a domestic incident on Beech Road in Sale.

He was subsequently hit by a van and suffered a fractured tibia and is thankfully currently recovering from the injuries sustained.

Chief Superintendent Colette Rose of our Trafford district said:

“On behalf of our officers we’d like to thank the local community for their concern and well wishes to our injured colleague.

“Everyday our officers respond to incidents with the aim of helping the public and keeping them safe and do not expect or deserve to be targeted in this way.”
