Ashton stab victim 'stable'
Police investigate the stabbing of a 71-year-old man in Tameside.
Police are reassuring residents in Ashton where an elderly man was found with stab wounds.
At around 8:30am on Wednesday 13 April 2016, police were called to an address on Mossley Road, Ashton-Under-Lyne, to reports that a male had been stabbed. Officers found a 71-year-old man with stab wounds, who was taken to the Manchester Royal Infirmary for treatment. He remains in hospital but is now in a stable condition.
A woman was also taken to hospital having become unwell.
Detective Inspector Richard Ennis said: “There has understandably been much concern in the community about this case, but I would like to make clear that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.
“There has been a thorough investigation by a team of detectives led by myself, and we do not believe there to be any third party involvement. We continue to support the family.
“The woman was taken to Tameside General Hospital as a result of a medical episode likely brought on by seeing this man’s injuries and is in a stable condition in hospital.”
