A man's been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after reports of shots being fired in Oldham.

The victim was reportedly shot at through the drivers window of his vehicle on Broadbent Road just before 6pm on Friday (8th July).

In a statement, GMP said:

"A man reportedly discharged twice into the driver’s window of a vehicle on the road before the man, and the victim who was later confirmed to be safe and well and not wanting to pursue a complaint, made off from the scene.

"Today (12 July 2022), a 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear. He remains in custody at this time. "

Detective Inspector Kathryn Lester, from GMP’s Oldham district, said: “We’re aware this incident caused some concern in the community as a number of people reported to have heard the noise where a shotgun was suspected to have been used.

“Extensive enquiries have been on-going since the incident which is being treated as isolated and deliberate this time. Finding out exactly what happened and who was responsible has been our priority since it happened and today’s arrest is a huge step forward in getting those answers.

“I would urge anyone with information, or anyone with dashcam footage or CCTV footage, to report it online or via LiveChat at www.gmp.police.uk or call 101. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
