Hundreds of thousands of pupils across England, Wales and Northern Ireland are due to find out their A-level results today.

Pupils in England will also receive results for T-levels, which were launched to provide high-quality technical alternatives to A-levels.

What are the overall A-level results likey to be?

Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson told the PA news agency that she expects a “pretty straightforward year” for students as things have “returned to normal” since the pandemic.

Last year, 27.8% of UK A-level entries were awarded an A or A* grade, up from 27.2% in 2023.

It was the highest proportion of entries scoring top grades outside the pandemic-affected years of 2020-22.

Advice from universities

Some students may have not got the grades they wanted, but in Greater Manchester, universities say there are many options out there.

Meg Evans supports students at UA92 in Stretford: "Clearing is basically a great opportunity for students who don't currently hold any offers.

"That could be because they don't quite meet the conditions of the offer they were given, it could be that they've had a change of heart in terms of the course or university they want to go to.

"Clearing is a way universities can clear those last spaces. It's basically a fresh opportunity.

"Emotions are running high but clearing doesn't have to be stressful. You just call us up, we're happy to talk through any of your options, always happy to listen, always happy to help.

"That time is yours to ask any questions you need and to get any support that you need."

Meg has this advice for parents: "Times have changed so there are definitely more options for young people than there would have been in their parents generation, so don't panic just yet.

"As time is moving forward we're getting more and more creative options in terms of the future career paths out there.

"I'd probably also say that the young person is the one who is going to be panicked most, so if you can be as calm as humanely possible, that definitely helps."
