Paul McCartney crowned as the UK’s most successful albums act of all time
Another award to add to the collection!
Sir Paul McCartney, whose career has spanned more than 50 years, has been announced as the 'King of Albums'.
Over the years he has notched up a massive 22 number one albums as part of group, duo and solo artist including 15 as part of The Beatles.
The other number ones were with Wings (2), as a solo artist (4) and his work with first wife, Linda McCartney (1), leading him to become the 'most prolific chart topper in history' according to The Official Albums Chart.
Paul was presented with his accolade and asked how it felt to receive such an award to which he replied,
'Okay, you know how it really feels? It feels unbelievable, because when you write your songs you don't count how well they're doing.
He went on to say, 'thank you to everyone who made it possible by buying the records, we love you too!'
Paul has enjoyed chart success every decade since the 1960s including this year's single with Kanye West and Rihanna, 'FourFiveSeconds'.
The 'Ferry Across The Mersey' singer also played a part in the biggest selling studio album of all time in the UK, which was The Beatles’ 'Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band', selling 5.1 million copies in Britain alone.
The Official Chart Record Breaker Award is a new award which was introduced earlier this year.
The first winner was Justin Beiber in February, for being the first act in history to hold positions one, two and three in the chart simultaneously.
