Following the announcement yesterday that Tamzin Outhwaite will be returning to EastEnders, it has now been revealed that a former S Club 7 star will also be joining the soap soon.

Hannah Spearritt is believed to be joining the show later this year, taking on a role in part of the Taylor family, as Karen Taylor’s younger sister Kandice.

Speaking about her new role Hannah said, "I’m over the moon to be joining the show, it’s such a huge part of British telly. I’m really looking forward to getting started and I can’t wait to see the Square in the flesh. Walford here I come."

While Hannah is probably mostly known for her singing as part of 90s group S Club 7, she also has an number of acting roles under her belt, including playing the part of Abby in Primeval for three years, and parts in Casualty and Death In Paradise.

In the late 90s and early 2000s Hannah was a regular in the charts singing hits such as 'Reach' and 'Bring It All Back' with her group mates Tina Barrett, Paul Cattermole, Rachel Stevens, Jo O'Meara, Bradley McIntosh, and Jon Lee. However, since their last album in 2002 she has taken a break from singing and returned to acting.

The show's creative director John Yorke, who took over earlier this year, has been making a lot of changes to the soap which has seen the announcement that on-screen sisters Lauren and Abi Branning will leave the show much to fans' disappointment.

At the time a spokesperson for the show said, "We can confirm that Jacqueline and Lorna will be leaving EastEnders.

"They have both been wonderful to work with and we wish them all the best for the future."

A source close to the soap told a national newspaper, "John has form for creating huge plots, so they’re in safe hands over their departure.

"It will be one of the biggest on-screen moments of the year.

"Sometimes a great storyline comes at the cost of losing some characters. The cast will be sorry to see them go."

Jacqueline, who married former The Only Way Is Essex star Dan Osborne in June this year, apparently seemed to reference the news of her character's exit on Instagram posting a photo of the on-screen sisters with love hearts in the caption.

EastEnders continues on weekdays.
