Coronation Street to raise awareness of cervical cancer in devastating storyline
It couldn't come at a worse time for the character

Coronation Street writers have one of the most difficult jobs of all the soaps - trying to balance the right amount of drama and tragedy with an equal amount of comedy and silliness to lift spirits.
And whilst former Emmerdale boss Iain Macleod has been brought in after the exit of Kate Oates to try and lighten the mood after a series of upsetting storylines, he's still carrying on Kate's legacy of shining a light on difficult topics.
As proven by the news that one of the younger characters is set to face a cervical cancer diagnosis in upcoming scenes - the same disease that killed beloved character Alma Baldwin in 2001.
But this version of the storyline will be just as devastating as it centres around Sinead Tinker, who will be diagnosed with the disease in upcoming weeks. Tragically, she and her fiancé Daniel Osbourne are expecting their first baby together, which could mean some heartbreaking scenes are on the way.
A source told Metro.co.uk, "Sinead and Daniel have everything to look forward to but this diagnosis will shatter everything. Sinead will learn that she has cervical cancer and it will leave her with some impossible decisions to confront.
"Can she and Daniel stick together and will she survive? It all remains to be seen – but it is destined to be emotional."

Show bosses have chosen to tackle the difficult storyline at an imperative time, as it was recently reported that the rates of young women having cervical screenings in the UK has dropped.
According to NHS Digital, women attending cervical cancer screenings in England is the lowest in 20 years, and more than 1.2 million women across the UK are not booking their tests in.
The last time Corrie portrayed cervical cancer was with Alma Baldwin's character in 2001, but they were blasted by viewers, cancer sufferers and charities at the time for their alleged "inaccurate" portrayal, something that was backed by actress Amanda Barrie, who played Alma.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
