The Rolling Stones' Keith Richards reveals details of their new tour, album and retirement
They announced their tour this week
Following yesterday's announcement of the The Rolling Stones' UK tour, Keith Richards has spoken to our sister station Planet Rock.
Speaking from his home in Connecticut, Keith told Planet Rock that he can’t wait to perform on home turf in London, Edinburgh, Manchester and Cardiff on the 'No Filter Tour' this summer.
“I was really happy to find out we were playing back home,” Keith said. “I didn’t realise it was five years (since Glastonbury and Hyde Park) so it’s time to pick up the thread.”
Keith explained that with a such a huge back catalogue of songs the band would be working on their setlist when they get together for rehearsals.
“That seems to be the place where everything falls into place and where we try out maybe something we haven’t done for a while and see if we can play around,” he explained.
“Also, we like to sort of load up so we’re not just rehearsing, we don’t just rehearse the setlist – we try and play everything we can remember.”
When he was asked about any warm-up gigs in smaller venues ahead of their 'No Filter Tour' Keith said they do often do them. Although they didn't have time before their last tour this time might be different as Keith revealed, "I’m sort of thinking that the guys probably want to do a club show before they hit the big stage. It’s sort of what they usually do and I wouldn’t mind, it would be great. As long as Mick’s up for it, I’m up for it.”
The Rolling Stones are currently working on their 26th studio album, which will be their first new music for 13 years! Keith revealed that the album is in progress, however he couldn't reveal a release date.
When asked he replied, “Oh man, it’s a bit early to say yet. Now that the tour’s coming up we probably won’t get into the studio again until later on this year. Christmas, how about that?!"
With all the members of The Rolling Stones now in their 70s Keith was also asked about the possibility of retirement. "The idea has never really occurred (to me)," Keith explained. "This is a band, if somebody said ‘that’s it’ I guess. We’re not all sitting here saying ‘I dare you to leave’ or anything like that. It’s what we do man – we enjoy doing it and there’s thousands of people out there and they enjoy it too. You can’t be a party pooper, right?!”
The Rolling Stones announced their 'No Filter Tour' to much excitement yesterday. The band will be playing at five UK stadiums, which is part of a larger European tour, that kicks off at Dublin Croke Park.
The band have confirmed that the ‘No Filter’ tour will boast seminal anthems like ‘Satisfaction’, ‘Paint It Black’, ‘Tumbling Dice’ and ‘Brown Sugar’ together with a couple of unexpected tracks and randomly selected surprises from their legendary back catalogue.
