Singer and actress Olivia Newton-John has announced the sad news that her breast cancer has returned.

The well known singer who played Sandy in the 1978 film Grease, originally recovered from breast cancer 25 years ago, but according to a statement on Facebook she recently found that her severe back pain was due to the disease spreading.

As a result of her treatment the 68-year-old singer has been forced to postpone her US and Canadian tour dates in June this year.

The statement also said that with treatment they are 'confident she will be back later in the year, better than ever, to celebrate her shows.'

This news comes just days after a statement was released saying 'Olivia has been suffering from severe back pain', so all 'meet and greets' in June would be cancelled.

Since news of the Olivia's cancer returning was announced, messages of support have been coming in from both celebrities and the general public alike, including Stella Parton, country singer and sister of Dolly Parton, who said, ' Will be praying you make a speedy recover. Sending lots of love. You are stronger than you know.'

Since originally being diagnosed with cancer in 1992, Olivia has been an advocate for breast cancer and health issues. In 2008 she raised funds to build the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in Melbourne by leading a three-week walk along the Great Wall of China.
