West Ham United have signed Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan until the end of the season.

"There's so much to look forward to in the second half of the season for the club and I can't wait to be part of it."

The 28-year-old has been frustrated by a lack of game time at City since joining the club from Leeds in the summer of 2022.

Phillips told the Hammers' website: "I'm really pleased to be here. There's always been a lot of speculation about me moving to West Ham, so I'm really excited to get going now.

"There's so much to look forward to in the second half of the season for the club and I can't wait to be part of it.

It had been reported the deal could include an option for West Ham to buy the player in the summer but it is understood that was not included in the final agreement.

Phillips, who has made just two starts for City this season, will also hope the move can help him maintain his place in the England squad ahead of Euro 2024 this summer.

Phillips has 31 international caps and played in the last two major tournaments.

A fresh start for Phillips ahead of the Euros

Kalvin Phillips will be hoping that the move to East London can put him in a stronger position for Euros selection, after a difficult period at Manchester City.

The 28 year old was a key part of the Leeds United side that got promoted to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa, and was instrumental in England's run to the last Euros final in 2021.

However, since moving to Manchester City in 2022, Phillips has struggled for game time, and has not started a single Premier League game so far this season.

The midfielder has also had to compete for playing time with some of Pep Guardiola's best players, including the likes of Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne.

Phillips is joining West Ham, who are currently enjoying an impressive campaign, with the Hammers sixth in the table.
