Police in Croydon are investigating after possible human remains were found in Croydon.

Officers were called just after 9am yesterday morning (April 2) following reports of possible human remains found on Rowdown Fields.

In a statement posted to Croydon Police's Facebook page, Superintendent Lewis Collins said they would remain at the scene overnight and their investigation's in an early stage.

"I would like to reassure you that officers remain on the scene and we will be carrying out a number of enquiries over the coming days to establish exactly what has happened.

"While out investigation is still at a very early stage, I would ask that people do not speculate on the circumstances and will we update you as soon as we have further information."
