Arrest after man handcuffed himself to Buckingham Palace gates

A man has been arrested after handcuffing himself to the gates of Buckingham Palace.

Scotland Yard say it happened at around 17.23 on Thursday and that nearby officers were quickly on the scene.

The individual, believed to be in his 30s, was understood to have been threatening to harm himself.

The London Ambulance Service attended too and cordons were set up.

The incident came to an end at 1am on Friday morning.

The man, who sustained a number of self inflicted injuries was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

He was taken to a south London hospital to be assessed before being taken into custody.
