Murder investigation launched after Tower Hamlets stabbing
Police were called to New Union Close yesterday afternoon
A 23-year-old man has died after a fatal stabbing in east London, with a murder investigation underway.
The Metropolitan Police say one person has been arrested after the incident yesterday afternoon.
Officers were called to New Union Close, Tower Hamlets at 4:15pm, and despite treatment by paramedics, the victim later died.
He has been named as Abdul Jalloh, who lived in the area, but formation identification is yet to take place.
His next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.
Officers say a man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender remains in custody, with a crime scene expected to remain in place "for some time".
Acting Chief Superintendent Brigid Beehag-Fisher for Tower Hamlets and Hackney, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the young man who has lost his life.
“Police received a number of calls from concerned members of the public when the victim was found yesterday afternoon, but we think there are a number of other people who saw what happened who have yet to speak to us.
“My colleagues in our homicide team are working to establish exactly what happened and it’s incredibly important that they hear from those people.
“Additional patrols will be conducted in the area while my officers will remain at the crime scene. I urge local people to speak to them and share information that they think can help us bring to justice whoever was responsible for this terrible violence.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the force.
