Man sentenced for 140mph Christmas day crash
Maria Do Nascimento died when the car she was travelling in was hit by a black Mercedes driven by Evan Forde
A man from Bedford has been sentenced to 12 years and disqualified from driving for 18 years after killing a woman in a high-speed car crash in north London in the early hours of Christmas Day 2022.
Evan Forde was driving a black Mercedes as fast as 140mph on Hendon Way when he crashed into the back of a silver BMW carrying Maria Do Nascimento and her boyfriend at around 3:45 am.
Maria, who was the passenger of the car, died at the scene around 50 minutes after the crash.
The Old Bailey heard how 32-year-old Evan Forde had been stopped by police just minutes before the fatal collision. As a police officer approached Forde's car, body cam footage played in court showed the car then speed off again.
Around 3 minutes later, Forde's car crashed into the BMW carrying Maria Do Nacimiento.
The court was played footage of the crash, which showed Forde and his passengers running away from the scene of the crash.
In her victim impact statement, Maria's mother said 'She was not just my daughter. She was my pride, my joy, my future.
'She was a dreamer who worked hard...Those dreams were cruelly and irresponsibly taken away'.
