A North London MP has suggested that residents are "terrrifed" and their lives "have been destroyed" after a fire in Wembley.

Barry Gardiner added that many residents are unable to move back into their properties. 25 fire engines and around 125 firefighters responded to the fire on the 29th of January.

He also claims that at a meeting with residents, it was found out that fire alarms had failed to go off.

Mr Gardiner, who's the MP for Brent North, spoke to Greatest Hits Radio outside Westminster...

"Many residents are completely unable to move back into their property - they've been destroyed.

"But their lives have been destroyed. Many people are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. They are terrified."

Octavia Housing, the owners of the building, said in a statement: “We understand that the fire at Elm Road was a distressing experience for our residents.

"Their safety and wellbeing remains our number one priority as we continue to offer every possible assistance and support to them that we can.”
