Thousands of jobs being created at Heathrow

Heathrow airport is planning to recruit thousands of extra workers to cope with the summer rush of holidaymakers.

Available roles will include customer service assistants in duty free, HGV drivers and chefs.

According to the airport’s traveller monitoring figures, 2022 could see around 45 million passengers pass through its doors as the industry bounces back after the pandemic.

The airport has also created a number of apprenticeship and entry-level jobs in a move to encourage more young employees.

Following the start of the pandemic in 2020, Heathrow and the rest of the UK’s airports saw a huge downturn in passenger numbers as countries shut their borders and travel ground to a halt.

The success of the UK’s vaccine roll-out has given fresh optimism to the aviation industry which hopes passengers will feel more confident travelling.

Heathrow airport’s chief people officer Paula Stannett said:
