Police launch appeal after pub attack left man with life-changing injuries
Officers want to speak to a man that was seen on CCTV in Islington
Metropolitan Police officers have launched an appeal for information as they try to trace a man in connection with an assault in an Islington pub.
The man, aged 33, had been watching a football match at a pub in the Tollington Park area of the city at around 8:30pm on April 26th, 2023.
During his time in the bar, he got into an altercation with another man, who later brandished a knife and cut deep into his face, leaving him with life-changing facial injuries.
The cut, when inspected by medical professionals, spanned from the victim's left cheek along to his lip.
After being taken to hospital by paramedics, it has been revealed that the man's injuries will require further long-term treatment, albeit not life-threatening.
It is believed that after the man was struck, the suspect left the pub. Following initial inquiries, the force have retrieved CCTV footage from the pub.
Officers have now released an image of the man they wish to speak to in relation to the attack, in the hopes that the public will be able to identify him.
Detective Constable Danitza Iniesta, from the Metropolitan Police's local policing team in Islington said that many people would have been present at the time of the attack.
"The pub was busy with people who were watching the Arsenal v Manchester City game that night. We believe the victim and suspect spoke a few times throughout the evening without issue, before this horrific act of violence unfolded," she said.
"If you were there that evening, or you know the man pictured, I urge you to contact us immediately."
Anyone who may have any information from the day of the attack is being asked to contact the Met Police themselves quoting reference number CAD 6799/26Apr. Alternatively, to give evidence anonymously, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
