Family pay tribute to man killed in M1 motorway collision

The family of 30-year-old Michael Stokes remember him as 'a loving father and partner' following Sunday's accident in Bedfordshire

The family of a man who died in a road traffic collision early on Sunday morning (11 August) have released a tribute. Michael Stokes, from London, was 30 years old when his car broke down on the M1 motorway. Stokes was on foot when he was involved in a collision with a heavy goods vehicle.

Michael's family said, “He was a loving member of the family and loved by all who knew him. He was a father to seven children who are all completely devastated at the loss of their dad. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.”

They also noted, “Michael was dedicated to his girlfriend who is completely broken at his sudden passing. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.”

A police investigation into the incident, which occurred around 2.30am between junctions 12 and 13 on the northbound carriageway, is ongoing. Officers are seeking anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
