Services at Whipps Cross Hospital in north east London are facing a third day of disruption following the flash flooding on Sunday.

Teams are continuing with a clear-up operation after the heavy rainfall led to flooding in some areas of the hospital.

A spokesperson for Barts Health NHS Trust said:

“We are continuing to experience operational issues at Whipps Cross Hospital caused by the heavy rainfall on Sunday. We are working hard to restore services in the affected areas.

“A number of surgical procedures due to take place at Whipps Cross on Wednesday 28 July will now be provided at other hospitals within the Barts Health group. Outpatient appointments will be held virtually or in alternative buildings, where possible. We will be in touch with patients whose appointments are affected.

“We would like to thank patients for their understanding and remind the public to check our visiting arrangements before coming in. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.”

A major incident was called across the Trust and around 100 inpatients were moved from the affected wards, including to other hospitals.

Ambulances are on diversion from Whipps Cross to other emergency departments.

This remains in place for some patients and kept under review.

Newham Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital are fully operational after suffering some flooding on Sunday.
