Detectives in Tower Hamlets are asking for the public's help after a man's body was recovered in a canal.

He's been identified at 55-year-old Ali Liaquat, who lived in the E14 area - and his next of kin have been told.

Officers were called to the Regent's Canal, near Rhodeswell Road in Limehouse, on October 11 at 7:11am following reports of a body in the water.

The Met Police now say a post mortem's not found any signs of injuries, and are not yet treating his death as suspicious.

They add they are working to establish how Ali came to be in the water and say they are pursuing a number of enquiries.

Officers from the Central East Command Unit are asking anyone who may have seen Ali in the time before his death - especially in the vicinity of Turners Road and Rhodeswell Road - to make contact with the force.
