The mum of a four-year-old St Helens’ girl killed in a hit and run says she still has nightmares- a year on.

Violet-Grace Youens died after being knocked down by a stolen car in March last year.

The two men behind the death got just over fifteen years between them.

Mum Becky says that won't bring back their daughter though.

“That physical pain in my chest will never ever go, I’ll cry for Violet forever.

“When you’ve not got the new memories coming through and you’ve been robbed of some of your memories because of the sheer trauma, you forget things as well.

“People might look at you and say they’re doing really well, but inside your heart is screaming in pain.

“I don’t think they’ll ever realise what they’ve done, they’ve taken our baby away from us and every day is a constant battle. We miss her so much.

“She’s so beautiful. We’ve seen images no parents should never have to see. We’ve felt things no parents should ever have to feel.”

Dad Glenn says it’s hard to think of the future.

“We’re never going to be the same people. Everyone’s saying we’re brave and we’re strong, but when the front door’s closed, people don’t see what we’re like, we’ve got a completely different relationship.

“A year ago I wasn’t afraid of living, I was afraid of dying, but I’m not afraid of living, I’m afraid of dying because everything I should have been, they took away from me.

“I’m never going to get to walk her down the aisle."
