Teams have started making preparations to refloat Liverpool's iconic tall ship Zebu.

It was found submerged outside the Tate earlier this month.

Susan Haley-Place is the Chief Executive at Mersey Heitage Trust and told us;

“Raising ZEBU from the deep waters of Albert Dock, Liverpool, is a task which must be treated with tenderness and respect.

"This involves respect for the future operational status of ZEBU, and also consideration for the historic surroundings in Albert Dock.

"An A-Team of national salvage experts has been put together and have been conferring and exchanging plans and procedures with the Canal & River Trust who operate the waterspace.

"The central players are Hughes Sub-Surface Engineering, backed up by Carmet Tug Company and many others such as Waterwitch Engineering who have offered support facilities.

"The sudden sinking of ZEBU, a well-maintained vessel with a high-profile role in the local community, remains a mystery until she is on the surface again.

"As soon as tides permit the diving support vessel to arrive in Albert Dock, the raising of ZEBU will commence.

"She is likely then to be floated into the Canning Half-Tide Dock, where dozens of shocked but determined ZEBU volunteers will be on hand to do their best to ensure this magnificent Brigantine sails again.”
