Work on rebuilding New Ferry Town centre is set to begin - two months on from the devstating explosion

Plans to repair most of the homes around the site have been agreed

Properties at 1-9 Underley Terrace, 2-8 Boundary Road and 45 -55 Bebington Road will be repaired.

The next steps for properties at 56-74 Bebington Road are still to be decided. Further discussions are on-going with owners and insurance companies and there are plans to meet again in mid-May to discuss this.

Discussions are underway about how best to repair the damage caused to surrounding roads and street furniture - and when to carry out the work. While repairing road damage is vital, if some buildings do need to be demolished, this work and the logistics of the demolition process will need to be considered as part of an overall programme of work.

David Ball Wirral Council’s Assistant Director of Environmental Services and lead officer in the recovery phase in New Ferry said: “There’s still a lot of work going on to help the community of New Ferry."

"We’re keeping our focus and we’re being methodical about dealing with everything that comes up. Making a decision about the future of a property is of course a very big thing for the people who own or live in those buildings so we’ve been working closely with everyone involved to come to a mutual and sensible decision wherever we can.”
