Work on new Everton stadium site resumes after tragic death
Construction workers have returned to Bramley Moore Dock after the death of one of their colleagues
Work has resumed at Bramley Moore Dock, the site of the new Everton stadium, following the death of a construction worker last week.
26-year-old Michael Jones, from Kirkby, was severely injured while working on the site and was rushed to hospital where he sadly died a short time later from his injuries.
Work stopped following his death on Monday 14 August to allow Merseyside Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to carry out investigations.
A spokesperson for construction firm Laing O’Rourke said:
“Following discussions with the HSE, Everton and the family of Michael Jones, this morning we informed our project team that we will resume construction operations at Bramley-Moore Dock."
Tributes have flooded in from across Liverpool for the lifelong Everton fan over the past week with Sean Dyche and Jurgen Klopp both leaving flowers at the site as well as both teams fans leading an applause in the 26th minute of their premier league games over the weekend.
A spokesperson added:
“We have put in place additional support for everyone, including access to trained counsellors, and are focused on returning to work in an appropriate and respectful way following last week’s tragic incident."
