A woman is recovering after being stabbed last night in Pensby, Wirral.
Police were called to an incident in Fishers Lane Park, where the victim was involved in an altercation with a group of four male youths in dark clothing, following alleged criminal damage of a fence at her nearby home.
During the incident, at around 8.20pm, one of the youths pulled a knife from his pocket and made threats. The woman began to walk back to her house before realising she had a puncture wound in her back.
She's still in hospital being treated for her injuries.
Detective Inspector Paul Lamb of Wirral CID said:
"This incident took place in a public place and I would urge anyone who witnessed the attack or knows who was involved to do the right thing and call police immediately.
"The youths involved joined a larger group in the park and I am sure some of these young people would not want to be associated with such a brutal attack. The victim is understandably shocked at what happened and is receiving treatment, but her injuries could have easily been much worse.
"I would like to reassure people that incidents like this are rare on the Wirral but we will be increasing patrols in the area and will do everything possible to bring the offender to justice."
