Woman who stabbed partner to death in Bootle jailed
Amanda McDonnell pleaded guilty to manslaughter
A woman who fatally stabbed her partner in Bootle has been jailed for eight-and-a-half-years.
Emergency services were called to a property on Church Walk on the morning of Wednesday 22 November - following a report that a man had been stabbed.
Gerard Hand, 44, was taken to hospital but died a short time later.
A post-mortem recorded his death as a single stab wound to the chest.
Amanda McDonnell, 43, of no fixed address, was charged with murder - she pleaded guilty to manslaughter last month, which was accepted by the prosecution.
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Dyer said:
"Firstly I would like to convey our sincere condolences to Gerard’s family.
"This is a tragic case where McDonnell’s actions that day led to the death of her partner.
"McDonnell pleaded guilty to his manslaughter which gave the family some solace of not having to hear the events leading up to his tragic death.
"McDonnell now has to live with the result of her actions that fateful day, and I hope that this conviction will give Gerard’s family a sense of closure."
