Woman Who registered for Finn McEwan Appeal Makes Lifesaving Donation

Published 30th Oct 2015

The appeal for Finn McEwan, the little boy from Bootle who needed a blood stem cell donation for his survival, led to thousands of people registering as potential donors with Delete Blood Cancer UK… including hundreds here at the Radio City tower.

Finn had his blood stem cell donation in June, and is doing really well, and now someone who registered as a result of the appeal has donated to help save another patient’s life.

Karen Scoltock, who is from Manchester, has just donated some of her blood stem cells to a patient who she had a matching tissue type to.

Karen had thought that she was too old to register, but when she saw in the media reports about Finn’s appeal that she wasn’t too old, she registered immediately.

She was then contacted by a member of the medical team at Delete Blood Cancer UK very quickly afterwards to be told that she was a possible match for a patient who needed a blood stem cell donation for their survival.

Finn’s family told us they’re delighted his appeal is now helping others and they want to continue getting more people signed up to the register.

During a visit up the Radio City tower Finn’s Mum Carole told us;

‘‘I told him all about how many people had turned up to register for him and he was so pleased… I think he was a bit overwhelmed at the time because he was so poorly. Now we’ve talked about it as he’s recovering he’s really happy and this visit up the tower is really special for him’’
