Detectives in Liverpool are appealing for witnesses after a woman’s handbag was stolen when she was pushed to the floor in Kensington.

The 58-year-old was walking along Malden Road at its junction with Molyneux Road at around midnight on Saturday (11 June) evening when she was approached by three black males as she walked home from work.

She was pushed to the floor and her handbag was stolen before the offenders made off on foot in the direction of Boaler Street in Kensington carrying the bag.

The victim was left extremely shaken and sustained a cut to her mouth which required stitching.

Patrols searched the area for the offenders but they have so far not been traced.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the Malden Road or Molyneux Road area shortly before or shortly after midnight on Saturday night to get in touch.

Detective inspector Phil Atkinson from Liverpool CID said:

"This was a very upsetting incident for this woman to experience."

"All she was doing was walking home from a shift at work when the men approached and tried to pull he bag off her. When she resisted they pushed her to the ground and wrenched her handbag from her."

"Police patrols searched the area but unfortunately the three males had fled the scene. I am hoping they attracted the attention of someone living in the area or passing by at the time who may be able to cast their minds back a and tell us anything they remember.

"These men may have been loitering in the area beforehand or out of breath after running away. If anyone saw a man carrying a woman’s handbag or even sorting through it in the street we would like to hear from you. We are doing all we can to catch these offenders so would appreciate any information that could help us."
