Police are appealing for information after three incidents where objects were thrown off bridges in Runcorn overnight.

The first incident occurred at 3.20pm on Monday 20 February, when an unknown object is reported to have struck the roof of a car on Runcorn Spur Road, near to Halton Brook.

At 3.44am on Tuesday 21 February, a woman was driving along Bridgewater Expressway, near to A533, when an object was thrown at her vehicle, causing the windscreen to shatter.

Glass from the windscreen caused injuries to the woman’s eye and hands.

Shortly before this incident, an ambulance was also struck with an object which had been thrown from a footbridge over the A533.

A number of enquiries are underway to locate those responsible and officers are now urging anyone with information to get in touch.

Inspector Daniel Haddock said:

“Throwing items bridges put people at risk and is a mindless act.

“This is a serious offence which could have potentially fatal consequences and we are doing all we can to locate those responsible.

“It is also Important to realise the repercussions that this incident could bring, not only to the offenders, to those around them if they are found to be involved in this.

“As a result, we will be upping the number of officers in the area, and anyone found to be causing harm in our communities will be dealt with robustly.

“I would urge anyone who has information or knows who is responsible to please get in touch with us and we will do the rest.”
