Woman critical after attack in Liverpool

It happened on Mathew Street in the early hours of yesterday morning

Merseyside Police are appealing for information following a reported assault in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of yesterday morning (Thursday 16 February).

At around 2.50am, officers received a report that a woman in her 20s had been attacked on Mathew Street.

Police say the victim sustained a serious head injury and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

A 24-year-old woman's been on suspicion of assault and remains in custody.
