The Wendy House, which has centres in Upton, Litherland, Birkenhead and Wallasey will be open longer for parents who work shifts like doctors, nurses, and police.

It's after they were asked by parents who worked late to see if they could stay open longer.

Now Wirral Council has approved a change in working hours on their site in Upton. The change gets underway next month.

Director Christine Seasmans said:

"We have a lot of parents who work shift worked instead of the regular 9 to 5"

"We'll have procedures in place to make sure it's only shift workers. It wont be a babysitting service. it's not a case of parents asking if we can look after their children if they fancy a night out"

The nursery will employ extra staff for the night time, and is setting up a bedroom which can house just over 30 children.

If the trial is a success in Upton, it's hoped the scheme will be rolled out to the 3 other sites the company has on Merseyside..

"It may be a case where other nurseries may take it on board, there is the demand there, there's no regular jobs out there. McDonalds, Asdas, everywhere is 24 hours now. It's not just 9 to 5"
