Parts of the Wirral have faced strong winds and waves this afternoon after a yellow weather warning was put in place across parts of Merseyside.

A yellow weather warning for wind had been in place but was lifted at 3pm.

Videos on social media this afternoon show water lapping up from the sea submerging parts of the waterfront:

The RNLI has issued warnings to those in the are to stay away from water.

On X (formerly Twitter) they say:

"Wildest it has been in a while on our patch!

"Stay safe out there folks and keep away from the coast if you're out and about.

"If you see someone in distress call 999."

Wirral council say a clean up operations now underway:

"After a day of pretty grim weather, inspections have highlighted a fair bit of debris along the coast and clean-up arrangements are underway.

"There’s also some damage to seating along prom areas which is being made safe, and surface water at West Kirby is slowly draining away.

"The wall at West Kirby was designed to reduce the worst effects of flooding and minimise damage, but we’ll be assessing things with the Environment Agency and keep you updated.

Lastly, on flooding, Brimstage Road is now open but Brimstage Lane will stay closed until tomorrow."
