Warrington man's murder sentence cut
A Warrington man - jailed for 20 years for murdering his girlfriend in a luxury Paris hotel - has had his jail term cut on appeal.
A Warrington man who bludgeoned his girlfriend to death at a luxury hotel in Paris has had his jail sentence reduced.
Ian Griffin murdered Kinga Legg at the ÂŁ1,000 a night Le Bristol hotel in 2009.
Her body was found with multiple injuries in a bath of the couple's room - in the meantime Griffin had returned to England.
The pair were on their way to Monaco at the time and planned to get married - but Griffin was also in a relationship with another woman, Tracy Baker, at the time. They have since had a child together.
Griffin was eventually arrested and extradited back to France in 2011. He was later sentenced in December 2014.
However Griffin appealed - and French newspaper Le Parisien has now reported it's been successful, with a reduction in his sentence of 6 years. During the appeal Griffin said he is "incredibly sorry" for what happened - and blamed his drug addiction for Kinga Legg's death, saying he can't remember attacking her.
