Wait is on to see if Liverpools bid for Eurovision shortlist is succesful
An announcement is due to be made this morning
Liverpool will find out this morning whether it’s been shortlisted to host Eurovision.
Our city's one of several hopefuls after lodging it's official bid earlier this week.
It's after it was decided winners Ukraine wouldn't be able to put on next year's extravaganza, due to the ongoing war with Russia.
Liverpool is twinned with the Ukrainian port city of Odessa, as well being England's only Unesco city of music.
Councillor Harry Doyle is Cabinet member for Culture and ahuge Eurovision superfan, he reckons it's time for Scousers to once again shine on the world stage :
"Our city wants to step up to the plate and do Ukraine justice and our sister city Odessa justice. We're doing this for Ukraine, we're not doing it for ourselves.
"Liverpool's got the most amazing reputation when it comes to events and particularly music. Music is such a rich part of our culture here.
"Eurovision wouldn't just be an event in the arena, there would be a whole piece of work around Ukrainian culture and identity in our schools and communities.
"We really want to do them justice and we'd love the opportunity to do that".
An announcement is due to be made this morning.
