Two men arrested after gunshots heard in Toxteth

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences after gunshots were heard in Toxteth on Sunday night (September 29).
Police were called to Pomfret Street at around 21:00BST after a group of men were heard shouting.
There are no reports of any injuries or damage, but a cordon has been set up and officers are going house-to-house, will also looking for CCTV.
A 23-year-old man from Wavertree was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a certificate and attempted wounding with intent.
A 26-year-old man from Wavertree was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and attempted wounding with intent.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Atkinson, from the Firearms Investigation Team, said: “The investigation into this incident is in its very early stages but we have already made progress with two arrests made overnight.
“This has happened in the heart of a residential area and we know it will cause people living nearby a lot of worry and upset.
Thankfully it does not appear anyone has been physically harmed, but it goes without saying that using a firearm close to people’s homes is incredibly reckless and dangerous.
“I want to reassure the community that we will leave no stone unturned as we seek to find who brought such fear to their community, and take them and their weapon off our streets.
"There is no room for guns in Merseyside and we will do everything in our power to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“We have a large police presence in the area and in the coming days our officers will be working to reassure the community as well conducting the investigation."
