Two men arrested following bike thefts on Liverpool loop line
It follows 15 reports of robbery in the past two months
Today, Friday 14 July, officers executed warrants and arrested two men following a series of robberies on the Liverpool Loop Line.
From 12 May to 11 July we received around 15 reports of two men on electric bikes who would target lone riders and steal their high value electric bike at knife point on a seven-mile stretch of the cycle trail, between Broadgreen and Fazakerley.
The victims were male aged between 13 to 50 years, and a woman. No injuries were reported.
Liverpool Local Policing team carried out the warrants on two properties in Kirkby in an operation to identify the suspects.
Two men, an 18-year-old and 20-year-old from Kirkby were arrested on suspicion of robbery. They are still in police custody to be questioned.
Local Policing Inspector Andrew Lloyd said: “These two arrests were made following an extensive operation and analysing CCTV footage of the suspects to prevent any further crime in the area.
“Thankfully no injuries were reported from the robberies, however the victims were left very distressed.
“I hope this response shows that such violence will not be tolerated in our community and we are determined to find anyone who was responsible and bring them to justice.
“Our officers would still like to hear from anyone who saw any such incidents on the Loop Line between 12 May to 11 July.
“Any piece of information could support our ongoing enquiries and prevent violence in our community.” {news}
