Two men are recovering in hospital after a shooting in Speke last night
Emergency services were initially called to Prenton Green at around 8.15pm to reports of shots fired.
A short time later the force received a number of other calls reporting further shots had been fired in the Millwood Road area.
Two men have been taken to hospital suffering shotgun wounds, their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
A large scene has been cordoned off while detectives work alongside the crime scene investigators to establish exactly where the incidents have taken place. House to house enquiries are on-going in the area and witnesses are being spoken to.
The force helicopter was used at the time and and CCTV from the area is being examined.
Police say at this stage a motive for the attacks are unclear and detectives are keeping an open mind.
