Two Guns Found In Liverpool
Police are investigating after two guns were found by members of the public in Liverpool. The first weapon – described as a revolver-style handgun – was found by a member of the public in Dymchurch Road in Speke shortly before 1pm. was a It was found to be a decommissioned blank firing revolver.
The second firearm was recovered in Anfield a short time later.Officers were called at about 1.30pm to reports of a "suspicious vehicle" that had been left on Dewsbury Road.
The silver Nissan Primera had been left in the street about 10 days ago and when officers searched the car they found a shotgun in the boot of the car. The weapon and car have been seized for forensic examination.Investigations into the discoveries of both weapons are now underway.
Detectives are not linking the two incidents. DCI Gayle Rooney from the Matrix Serious Organised Crime team, said: “I am grateful to the member of public who was concerned about the impact of a suspicious car on their neighbours and the community.
“To many people this car might have seemed quite innocuous, but it proves that even the smallest amount of information can be very important and thanks to this caller a firearm has now been taken out of circulation and can no longer be used on the streets of Merseyside.
“The firearm will now be forensically examined and an investigation has been launched to identify the offenders linked to this weapon.
“We are also grateful to those who went out of their way to flag down a police patrol following the discovery of the revolver in Speke. It has enabled us to take a dangerous weapon off the streets.”
