Two arrested in connection with fatal St Helens crash
A cyclist died in hospital on Friday following the crash
Two people are being questioned by police after a fatal crash in St Helens yesterday morning (01/12).
A 60-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision.
They remain in custody and urgent enquiries are continuing.
Emergency services were called to reports of an injured cyclist on Islands Brow - close to the junction with Hinckley Road around 06.30 am on Friday morning.
The man, who was in his 50s, was treated by paramedics at the scene, but later died in hspital.
Merseyside Police are now appealing for witnesses, or people who were in the area at the time to get in touch.
In particular, they'd like to speak with anyone who was in the in the Haresfinch and Parr area of St Helens, and those travelling on Woodlands Rd, Green Leach Lane, Islands Brow or Park Road, between the hours of 6.17am and 6.31am to contact them.
In a statement, the Force say they'd also like to speak with anyone who saw a silver Skoda Fabia in the area. Sergeant Simon Duffy said "I would urge people to review their dashcam if they travelled in the area at this time and speak to us as a matter of urgency if they believe they captured something significant."
