A family have paid an emotional tribute to a man who died following a collision near Ormskirk last Friday night.

Jason Myers, 25, from Maghull, Liverpool, was driving a Renault Megane which left the road and collided with a tree on Wanishar Lane, Downholland.

In their tribute, the family said:

“Jason was one month short of his 26th birthday when he died tragically in a road traffic accident on December 15, 2023.

“He is survived by his loving family: his mother Diane, his grandmother Hilary , his Uncle Carl and Aunt Kathleen; his Uncle Steven and Aunt Michelle and his father Karl and numerous devoted friends.

“Jason lived a life full of achievement and adventure. He attended Halsall Primary School, DeyesHigh School and Scarisbrick Half school. He later received a BSC and Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from John Moores University, Liverpool.

“His passion was always vehicles and engines, and as a child he was always drawing cars and bikes. He loved his BMX and then became a mountain biker.

“Jason loved to hike and received his Duke of Edinburgh award. He was well travelled, and has taken trips to Egypt, Europe and throughout the USA.

“Jason was an engineer employed by NSG Environmental and worked on nuclear remediation projects. He alternated his worktime between his home in Maghull, and his employment in Chorley and Aldermarston.

“He was fortunate to find a position he loved and in which he excelled.

“Jason was taken far too soon. He will be missed more than words can convey.”

A passenger in the car was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Officers investigating the collision are appealing for anyone who witnessed it or saw the car beforehand, to get in contact.

Anyone with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision on Friday evening, are also asked to get in touch.
