Three year old girl dies after choking in Aintree supermarket

A three year old girl has died after choking inside a supermarket in Aintree.

Paramedics were called to the Asda on Ormskirk Road just before 9 last night.

The girl was taken to Alder Hey but sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

Merseyside Police, who were called to the scene by North West Ambulance service, have released a statement:

"At around 9.50pm, the ambulance service informed Merseyside Police that they had earlier attended reports of a three year-old girl choking inside Asda on Ormskirk Road.

"The child was taken to hospital but sadly pronounced dead a short time later. The family are being supported by officers at this sad time.

"The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and enquiries are ongoing.

"A file is in the process of being prepared for the coroner."
