Three arrested on suspicion of New Brighton murder

Three people are being being questioned by police after a man who was assaulted in New Brighton on Boxing Day died in hospital.

Three people are being being questioned by police after a man who was assaulted in New Brighton on Boxing Day died in hospital.

Emergency services were called at around 3.45am on Boxing Day following a report of an assault on Marine Promenade, close to Evo’s Loft nightclub.

The victim, 30-year-old Zac Matthew Wells, from Liscard, sustained head injuries in the incident and died yesterday. He has been formally identified and next-of-kin have been informed. His family are being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer.

A 29-year-old man from Poulton, a 16-year-old male from Egremont and a 26-year-old woman from Birkenhead have been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Gary Stratton from Wirral CID said:

"Zac’s death is a tragedy and has left his family and friends devastated.

“We are determined to find out exactly what happened and our enquiries into this incident are ongoing.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in Evo’s Loft nightclub before the incident took place, or anyone who was outside and witnessed the incident or its immediate aftermath to get in touch with us. Any information could prove vital to our investigation."
