Two men and a male teenager have been arrested by police after a chase yesterday (Saturday 18th April) of what officers suspected was a stolen car on The Wirral.

They pursued the Ford Mondeo from Pasture Avenue at Moreton for a short time, at high speed from around 10.15am.

Damage was done to the level crossing barriers at Leasowe Station, but that's open and operational as normal today.

The police helicopter and dog unit helped officers apprehend two men close to Pasture Avenue, a third male was found shortly after that at Castle Road - whilst trying to hide in a garden, where apparently a householder was pushed to the ground.

All three were taken in for questioning and the vehicle was found extensively damaged at Lyons Close.

A man, 21, from Egremont was held under suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of cannabis.

A 17-year-old boy from Bromborough was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, breaching a criminal behaviour order, theft of a motor vehicle, assault by beating, disqualified driving and drug driving.

A Birkenhead man aged 19 was arrested on suspicion aggravated vehicle taking (being carried on), theft of a motor vehicle and possession on cannabis. He was issued with a cannabis warning.

Chief Inspector Phil Mullally said, "The roads may be quieter than usual at the moment, but we’re still actively patrolling across Merseyside, to ensure that people are staying safe, which includes reports of dangerous driving and other risks to road users and the wider community.

"Not only were other road users put at risk in this case, damage and disruption was caused to a local station, which are vital to our key workers at this time. Our investigations continue into this incident and meanwhile, keep telling us what you know and we will take action."
