Teenager suffers head injuries in Prescot assault
16 year old believed to have been involved in a fight, before seeking help at petrol station.
Detectives in Knowsley are appealing for witnesses following an incident in Prescot last night which left a teenager with a head injury. The incident is believed to have occurred in Scotchbarn Lane shortly before 8.30pm. A passing motorist reported seeing two young men fighting with each close to the roundabout where Scotchbarn Lane meets Kemble Street and Warrington Road. While this report was being received, a second call was made to the police from someone reporting that a teenager had gone to the Texaco filling station on St Helens Road, Prescot asking for help having been assaulted. An ambulance was called and paramedics in turn alerted the police after becoming suspicious about how the 16-year-old victim suffered the injuries, which include a cut to his right ear and a deep wound to his head. After speaking to witnesses to the fight, officers believe the head wound may have been caused by the butt of a handgun. Detectives are treating the two incidents as linked and are keen to hear from anyone who was in Scotchbarn Lane last night between 8pm and 8.30pm who witnessed the fight or who saw anyone in a silver car or on a pedal bike which left the scene a short time later. Detective Inspector Robbie Moss said: “We do believe that there has been some kind of violent incident at the roundabout end of Scotchbarn Road and one or more people have been injured. One of these people has sought help from a local petrol station and we are now waiting to speak to him about what happened, once he has been discharged from hospital. “I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw a silver car in Scotchbarn Lane or anyone on a pedal bike as we believe the people using them may have been somehow involved in the assault. "This is a very busy road with lots of passing motorists and pedestrians so I am appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact the police or leave information anonymously with Crimestoppers.” Call Knowsley CID on 0151 777 6561 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
