Teenager in hospital after stabbing in Wavertree
The 19 year old suffered serious stab wounds to his leg
An investigation's underway after a teenager was stabbed on a main road in Wavertree.
It happened at around 4:35pm yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 29th June) on Smithdown Road.
Police received reports that a 19-year-old man had been stabbed in the leg during a fight involving a group of men.
The victim has been taken to hospital for treatment for his injury which is believed to be serious, but not life threatening.
An investigation is underway and officers will remain in the area to carry out forensic, CCTV, house-to-house and witness enquiries.
High visibility patrols will also be in the area to reassure the local community.
Chief Inspector Jim Wilde said:
“Enquiries are in the very early stages to establish what has taken place. We do believe that those involved are known to each other. Smithdown Road will have been very busy at the time of this incident and I would appeal to anyone who was the upper end of Smithdown Road, close to Lodge Lane and Newstead Road at around 4.30pm and saw what happened to please contact us.
“I would also ask people who were in the area to check dashcam or CCTV footage just in case they may have captured something which may be vital to the case.”
