Merseyside Police have charged a 15-year-old male after teenagers were reported to have been robbed by two males with a machete in Kirkdale on Friday 6 December.

Police were deployed to Walton Road just after 3.40pm following reports the suspects had threatened two victims, females aged 14 and 17, with the machete.

The 14-year-old was thrown to the floor and robbed of £10 in her pocket, sustaining an injury to her knee.

An investigation was launched with potential witnesses spoken to and CCTV and house-to-house enquiries carried out.

A 15-year-old male from Walton has subsequently been charged with robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place. He was remanded into custody to appear at Merseyside Youth Remand Court today (Monday 9 December).

A 17-year-old male from Everton was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place. He has been conditionally bailed.

Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher said: “We carry out prevention and enforcement work all year round to combat knife crime and protect our communities from the harm it brings.

“Through education projects linked to local schools engaging with young people, through to enforcement on the streets, our work to stop people carrying knives in the first place goes on 365 days a year.

“We target activity where our own intelligence and information from the community leads us, and I ask that the public continue to support us and tell us who is carrying, using, or storing knives or weapons.

“Please come forward so we can continue to disrupt offenders and bring them to justice.” Hear all the latest news from across the UK on the hour, every hour, on Greatest Hits Radio on DAB, smartspeaker, at greatesthitsradio.co.uk, and on the Rayo app.
